Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has invited Celtic defender Efe Ambrose as a replacement for injured Kasimpasa defender Kenneth Omeruo ahead of the team’s friendly games against DR Congo and Cameroon in Belgium next month.
Omeruo suffered a hamstring injury in the ninth minute of Kasimpasa’s clash against Godfrey Oboabona’s Rizespor in the Turkish league on Monday at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium in İstanbul, and was immediately replaced by Bulgarian Vasil Bozhikov.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the replacement on Twitter on Wednesday.
“Sunday Oliseh has called up Efe Ambrose in place of injured Omeruo for October friendlies.”

Ambrose will be making a return to the team after he was left out for the last few matches under former coach Stephen Keshi. He bagged a red card in a league game on Saturday and was hailed by Celtic fans for preventing Hearts’ Sam Nicholson from scoring.
The defender will be in action for the Bhoys against Fenerbahce in their Europa League fixture on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Omeruo, who is having his third loan spell outside his parent club Chelsea, has been ruled out of action for three weeks after a scan was carried out on him.
Meanwhile, Nigerian women referees will take charge of the 2016 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying match between Burkina Faso and Ethiopia in Ouagadougou on Saturday, the Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed.
Uloma Nwogu will be the referee, with Hulda Nwokocha as first assistant and Mimisen Iyorhe as second assistant. Another Nigerian Folusho Ajayi will be the reserve referee.
The match was rescheduled following a failed coup in Burkina Faso, but calm has since returned to the country.
The game is the third round, first leg of the race to the 2016 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea. The winner of the fixture between Burkina Faso and Ethiopia will clash with the winner between Equatorial Guinea and Ghana, while the winner between Nigeria and DR Congo will confront the winner between Zambia and South Africa. Two countries will represent Africa at the finals.
CAF’s confirmation of the match in Ouagadougou also means that the 2016 African Nations Championship final qualifier between the Super Eagles and the Etalons on Ouagadougou on October 25 will be played.
