Ogunbote unsure of future at 3SC

Shooting
Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote is not certain of being with the Oluyole
Warriors next season, despite helping the club to turn their fortunes
around this season.
The former Sharks manager joined the
Ibadan outfit on a one-season deal in June, when 3SC were stuck to the
bottom of the Premier League table.
He told our correspondent on Monday that
he would have loved to strengthen the team at the end of the season but
he would not be able to do that since his contract would have ended.
“I
may want to continue or leave at the end of the season. It is possible
the club might not want me to continue with them. It takes two to tango,
both parties must be willing to work together before a contract can be
agreed,” Ogunbote said.
“It is difficult to say if I will sign
any player for the club. The reason is that I have a one-season contract
with the team and it expires at the end of the season. I’m not thinking
of signing any player at this stage unless I’m certain I will remain
with the team.”
He added, “We have a team that could
contend for the title. We have a team as good as the league leaders.
But the problem with the team is that we started to gel late.
“The target was that we should avoid
relegation. But I’m looking beyond that by aiming at a decent position
in the table at the end of the season. We may not really get what will
gladden our hearts, like getting a CAF competition ticket, but we will
be in a position that the fans will appreciate.
“I joined the team when they were 20th in
the table. But with the support of the fans, and the determination of
the players, we’ve been able to defy the odds by getting points where it
was thought to be impossible.”
